At least 22 people were killed and 56 others injured in a Russian ballistic missile and drone attack on Kyiv, Ukraine, according to officials. The attack, which consisted of 68 missiles and 351 strike drones, was the second large-scale Russian assault on the Ukrainian capital in a week.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has appealed for allies to take 'strong decisions' at the upcoming Nato summit to provide Kyiv with air defenses, emphasizing the need for protection against ballistic missiles, which the Ukrainian military was unable to intercept in this attack.
The air force shot down or suppressed 37 missiles and 326 drones, while 15 people were killed in the second attack, which killed 30 people in the previous assault. Zelensky warned that Moscow was preparing a second 'massive strike' on Kyiv.
In response to recent Ukrainian strikes on Russian power stations, Russia said it had targeted military and energy bases in Kyiv. The Ukrainian military claimed to have struck three Russian oil refineries, including the country's largest in Omsk, while Russia's Ministry of Defence reported that Kyiv had launched 625 long-range strike drones, of which 613 were shot down.
