Russian Forces Launch Major Attack on Kyiv, Ukraine
Confirmed
In Short: Russian forces launched a major attack on Kyiv, Ukraine, killing at least 21 civilians and injuring many more, as part of a 11-hour bombardment in response to Ukrainian strikes on Russian oil facilities.

Russian forces launched a major attack on Kyiv, Ukraine, targeting the city with ballistic missiles and drones, resulting in the deaths of at least 21 civilians and injuries to many more. The attack, which lasted for 11 hours, caused significant damage and prompted thousands of civilians to seek shelter in subway stations.
The Russian Defense Ministry stated that the attack was in response to recent Ukrainian strikes on Russian oil facilities, which had caused severe fuel shortages and put pressure on President Vladimir Putin. The bombardment included the use of 'high-precision long-range weapons' and drones to strike weapons factories, energy facilities, and military airfield infrastructure in and around Kyiv, as well as in other parts of Ukraine.
Kyiv resident Serhii Budko described the experience of the attack, saying, 'We were inside the shelter and felt the shelter shaking — the ceiling and floor, everything.' The attack also caused damage in the central Dnipropetrovsk region, where a Russian strike killed a 7-year-old girl and wounded four other people, including an 11-year-old girl, all members of the same family.
More than 16,000 Ukrainian civilians have been killed in the war, according to the United Nations, with the latest attack adding to the toll. The Russian forces also launched another large-scale attack on Odesa, damaging residential buildings and infrastructure.
