What we know
The U.S. military launched a second consecutive round of airstrikes on Iranian military targets Saturday at President Donald Trump’s direction, after a drone strike on the Panama-flagged tanker Kiku in the Strait of Hormuz further strained the June 17 U.S.–Iran memorandum of understanding.
U.S. Central Command said aircraft hit Iranian surveillance infrastructure, communications systems, air-defense sites, drone-storage facilities and minelayer capabilities. Explosions were reported near Sirik and on Qeshm Island. Trump accused Tehran of violating the ceasefire again and warned the United States might “militarily complete the job,” saying Iran “will no longer exist” if that happens. Iran rejected Washington’s account, saying U.S. strikes themselves breached the MoU, and later reported attacks on U.S.-linked sites in the region; Bahrain condemned Iranian drones over its territory.
