Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps Navy and Aerospace Force targeted several sites of the 'US terrorist army in the region,' according to a statement, in response to U.S. military strikes on Iranian missile and drone locations in the strait of Hormuz.
Bahrain reported being hit by a number of drones, though no immediate damage was reported. The U.S. Navy's Fifth Fleet, based in Bahrain, was also targeted, with Bahrain condemning the strikes as a violation of its sovereignty.
The tit-for-tat attacks marked the first incident of violence between the U.S. and Iran since a ceasefire memorandum was signed last week, aimed at achieving a lasting peace through talks.
Hours later, a shipping monitor reported a vessel in the Strait of Hormuz struck by an unidentified projectile, adding to tensions in the region.
