What we know

Israeli air and drone strikes across southern Lebanon on Saturday killed at least 16 people, including two children, Lebanese authorities said, less than a day after mediators announced a renewed ceasefire between Israel and Hezbollah meant to clear the path for U.S.-Iran talks in Switzerland.

Lebanon’s National News Agency and civil defence reported dead and wounded in Nabatieh, Tyre, Sidon and Bekaa districts, including a family of four in Barish and multiple deaths in Qannarit. An Israeli military official said Hezbollah fired more than 50 projectiles overnight and that five Israeli soldiers had been killed in southern Lebanon in 48 hours. Neither Israel nor Hezbollah is a signatory to the U.S.-Iran memorandum.
