Israel and Hezbollah agree ceasefire as US-Iran talks postponed
Confirmed
What we know
Israel and Hezbollah agreed Friday to halt heavy fighting in southern Lebanon that had threatened an interim U.S.-Iran war-ending memorandum, officials told multiple outlets. The truce was mediated by Qatar, the United States and Iran and was set for 4 p.m. local time after overnight Israeli strikes killed at least 47 people in Lebanon and Hezbollah attacks killed four Israeli soldiers.
Technical talks planned for Friday at Bürgenstock, Switzerland, were postponed. Vice President JD Vance canceled travel, Iranian negotiators did not fly as planned, and Switzerland’s foreign ministry confirmed the sessions would not go ahead while preparations continued. The interim deal signed earlier in the week calls for a halt to military operations on all fronts, including Lebanon.
