The United States and Iran agreed to a memorandum of understanding ending more than 100 days of war, with Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif announcing that both sides had declared an immediate and permanent termination of military operations on all fronts, including Lebanon. U.S. President Donald Trump said Monday the deal was all signed, ordered removal of the U.S. naval blockade of Iranian ports, and said the Strait of Hormuz would open when the initial agreement is formally signed later in the week.

Iran’s deputy foreign minister Kazem Gharibabadi confirmed an immediate end to military operations and said the sides have about 60 days to negotiate a final settlement. Oil prices plunged more than four percent at the Tokyo open Monday as markets priced in a Hormuz reopen; Israeli ministers pushed back on any Lebanon withdrawal while Lebanon’s president welcomed the announcement.
