SpaceX IPO closes up 19%; Musk becomes first trillionaire
Confirmed
What we know
SpaceX began trading on Nasdaq under ticker SPCX on Friday after pricing 555.6 million shares at $135, raising about $75 billion — the largest initial public offering in history, topping Saudi Aramco’s 2019 debut. Shares opened near $150, briefly surged more than 30%, and closed at $160.95, up about 19% from the offer price, for a market value near $2.1 trillion.
The debut made SpaceX CEO and controlling shareholder Elon Musk the world’s first trillionaire on paper, with Forbes estimating his combined SpaceX and Tesla holdings near $1.1 trillion. Musk rang the opening bell from Starbase, Texas, while executives including Gwynne Shotwell joined the ceremony in New York; Goldman Sachs led the underwriting syndicate.
