NASA Announces Artemis III Crew for 2027 Moon Landing

In Short: NASA has named astronauts Randy Bresnik, Frank Rubio, Andre Douglas, and Luca Parmitano to crew the Artemis III mission, set for late 2027. The mission aims to test critical operations and refine plans for future lunar missions.
Jeremy Parsons, NASA’s Artemis program manager, emphasized the importance of these tests, stating, 'This test flight will enable us to prove we can carry out highly choreographed operations with our partners across hardware interfaces, software propulsion systems and life support elements with crew in the high-stakes space environment.
Parsons highlighted that key elements of the Artemis III program are progressing well, including the development and testing of a redesigned heat shield for NASA’s Orion spacecraft. The mission is expected to last about two weeks, roughly four days longer than the Artemis II mission.
Parsons also noted that the insights gained from Artemis III will be crucial for refining plans for Artemis IV, adding, 'Every aspect of Artemis III will give us insight into how to refine our plans for Artemis IV.
