The US Tsunami Warning Centre has issued advisories for parts of the Pacific following a massive earthquake off Mindanao in the Philippines. According to local civil defence office director Rodrigo Sosmeña, 12 of the fatalities were reported in Soccsksargen - a region spanning four provinces and one city: South Cotabato, Sultan Kudarat, Sarangani, and General Santos City.

Here are some photos we're getting from the province's Sangihe Islands Regency: The UK's Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) has issued safety guidance for the Mindanao region after the earthquake. Emergency officials stressed that a full-scale evacuation had not been ordered and advised the public to continue monitoring official updates and instructions.

Officials said they would continue monitoring the situation and issue additional bulletins as more information becomes available. President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. said on social media that he has directed government agencies to act immediately.

Hazardous conditions could persist for several hours or longer, the advisory said. A tsunami warning issued earlier by Indonesian authorities has been lifted.

There are also seven people missing, the spokesperson said.
