Zverev wins French Open for first Grand Slam title, beats Cobolli in five
Confirmed
What we know
Alexander Zverev won his first Grand Slam title Sunday at Roland-Garros, defeating Italy's Flavio Cobolli 6-1, 4-6, 6-4, 6-7 (5), 6-1 in a five-set French Open final lasting more than four hours. It was Zverev's fourth major final; he had lost the previous three, including the 2024 Paris final to Carlos Alcaraz.
The third-ranked German became the first German man to win a Slam since Boris Becker's 1996 Australian Open. Cobolli, in his first major final, was attempting to become the first Italian man to win Roland-Garros since Adriano Panatta in 1976. Both players were treated for cramps; Cobolli said he "deserved it more" at the end while Zverev collapsed in tears on the clay after Cobolli missed an overhead on the second championship point.
