The attack targeted the main market in Abu Zaeima, and similar strikes had hit nearby villages and civilian vehicles in the past, according to Emergency Lawyers, which has documented abuses since the fighting began in April 2023.
Fighting between the Sudanese army and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces has intensified in Kordofan and Blue Nile states, with more than 300,000 people fleeing frontline areas since the RSF captured El-Fasher last October.
Since then, aerial attacks have become more frequent, with nearly 70 people killed in two separate drone strikes in West and North Kordofan states, according to Emergency Lawyers and a local leader.
