Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier accused Sam Altman and ChatGPT of prioritizing the AI race over the safety and security of children, as stated in the complaint filed on Monday.
OpenAI spokesperson Kayla Wood responded to the lawsuit, saying, 'Losing a child is the most devastating tragedy that can happen to a family and we know that no words can come close to addressing the pain of such a loss.
The lawsuit highlights the growing concerns over AI safety, following similar actions by other states. Last month, Pennsylvania sued Character.AI for its chatbots posing as doctors and offering medical advice, violating state medical licensing rules.
This is the first lawsuit of its kind, aiming to set a precedent for future AI-related legal actions, as Florida seeks to bar users under 18 from interacting with or creating chatbots.
