The MV Hondius, which was at the center of a global health alert over a deadly hantavirus outbreak, has been cleared to sail again after undergoing extensive cleaning and disinfection, according to a public health agency in the Dutch port of Rotterdam.
Following a final inspection on May 29, the public health agency stated, 'From a public health perspective, there are no longer any obstacles to putting the Hondius back to sea.
During the inspection, infection control experts confirmed that the ship had been effectively cleaned and that disinfection had been carried out in accordance with established guidelines.
Oceanwide Expeditions, the owner of the MV Hondius, announced that the ship would leave Rotterdam once inspections were complete and would resume its cruise schedule from June 13.
