What we know

President Donald Trump held a roughly two-hour White House Situation Room meeting Friday to make what he called a "final determination" on a tentative U.S.-Iran memorandum that would extend the fragile ceasefire by 60 days, reopen aspects of the Strait of Hormuz framework and open a new track of nuclear talks — but aides said the session ended without an announced decision. Iranian foreign ministry spokesman Esmail Baghaei said the agreement "has not been finalized yet."

The draft followed Thursday reports that negotiators had reached a tentative framework. Public outlines circulating Friday included a 60-day hostilities pause, steps toward easing the U.S. naval blockade and sanctions so Iran can sell more oil, and language barring Hormuz tolls and requiring mine clearance — with enrichment and proxy issues still contested. Vice President JD Vance had said talks were "very close" but not done, including on enrichment wording. A White House official said Trump would only sign a deal that meets his red lines, including that Iran never obtain a nuclear weapon.
