Mexican Airlines Restrict Flights from Ebola-affected African Countries

MEXICO CITY – Mexican airlines Aeromexico, Viva, and Volaris have announced restrictions on flights for passengers arriving from African countries affected by the Ebola outbreak, effective on May 29, as Mexico prepares to welcome fans and athletes for the football World Cup in less than two weeks.
Aeromexico, the country’s largest airline, stated on social media that entry into Mexico by air is restricted for travelers who have stayed in Uganda, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, or South Sudan within the last 21 days.
Low-cost carriers Viva and Volaris, which operate several international routes, announced similar restrictions, which are in effect for 60 days.
The move comes as Mexico seeks to prevent the spread of the deadly Ebola virus, which has affected several Central African countries.
