Trade union members at Samsung Electronics in South Korea have approved a long-term bonus agreement linked to semiconductor profits, with nearly 74% of more than 62,000 union members voting in favor. This decision comes amid increased global demand and follows a similar bonus package offered by rival chipmaker SK Hynix, which was more than three times larger than Samsung's previous bonuses.

The agreement has not been without controversy, as workers in other divisions express dissatisfaction, claiming the deal disproportionately benefits semiconductor employees. This internal division highlights the significant focus on the semiconductor industry within the company.

Samsung Electronics is also planning to invest 39 trillion dong ($1.5 billion) to construct its first semiconductor testing plant in Vietnam, signaling a strategic move to expand its global presence in the semiconductor sector.

This development underscores the critical role of the semiconductor industry in South Korea's economy and the competitive landscape among tech giants in the region.
