Lebanese health officials and state media said Wednesday that Israeli airstrikes on Tuesday killed at least 19 to 21 people across southern Lebanon, including women and children, despite a fragile U.S.-brokered ceasefire. The hardest-hit site was a house in Deir Qanoun al-Nahr in Tyre district: overnight and Wednesday rescue work raised the village toll as bodies were pulled from the rubble, with reports converging on roughly a dozen dead there — many from one family — plus a Syrian national among the victims.
AP cited the Health Ministry's Tuesday tally of 19 dead nationwide, including four women and three children; BBC, drawing on the ministry and National News Agency, put the overall Tuesday toll at least 21 and said 12 died in the single Deir Qanoun house attack. The Israeli military told BBC it struck a Hezbollah operative in a structure used for military purposes; one Israeli soldier was also reported killed Tuesday in fighting in the south. Strikes also hit Nabatieh and Kfar Sir, according to Lebanese tallies.
