Lebanon ceasefire frays as Hezbollah claims 24 attacks; Israel keeps striking
Confirmed
What we know
The U.S.-brokered Israel–Hezbollah ceasefire that began in mid-April is fraying in name only, with both sides escalating in southern Lebanon on Monday, Al Jazeera, Anadolu Agency and related wire coverage reported.
Hezbollah said early Monday it had carried out 24 attacks over 24 hours on Israeli troop gatherings, Merkava tanks, bulldozers and command posts near Khiam, Naqoura and other border towns using explosive drones, rockets and guided missiles. Lebanese media said Israeli air strikes killed civilians and wounded others in Abba and elsewhere, while the Israeli army issued fresh displacement warnings for nine southern and Bekaa-area localities. Overall war deaths since March 2 were cited above 2,840. U.S.-hosted Israel–Lebanon talks are set for May 14–15 in Washington.
