Trump: Russia and Ukraine agree to 3-day ceasefire and 1,000-for-1,000 prisoner swap
Developing
What we know
President Donald Trump said Friday that Russia and Ukraine had agreed to his request for a three-day ceasefire from May 9 through May 11 and a swap of 1,000 prisoners on each side, AP, PBS, BBC, Guardian and CBS reported, after earlier unilateral pauses for Victory Day collapsed amid mutual accusations of violations.
Trump said the pause would suspend all "kinetic activity" and could be the "beginning of the end" of the war. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Yuri Ushakov, an aide to Russian President Vladimir Putin, both confirmed the arrangement. Zelenskyy said Ukraine expected Washington to hold Russia to the terms; the U.N. secretary-general welcomed the announcement while urging a lasting ceasefire.
