U.S. intercepts Iranian attacks on 3 Navy destroyers in Hormuz; strikes launch sites
Developing
What we know
U.S. Central Command said Thursday that Iranian forces launched missiles, drones and small boats at three Navy destroyers — USS Truxtun, USS Rafael Peralta and USS Mason — as they transited the Strait of Hormuz toward the Gulf of Oman, and that U.S. forces intercepted the threats and struck Iranian missile and drone launch sites, command nodes and ISR facilities, AP, CNN, CBS and Al Monitor reported.
CENTCOM said no U.S. ships were hit and that it does not seek escalation. Iran's armed forces accused Washington of violating the April 8 ceasefire by targeting Iranian vessels and coastal areas including Qeshm, Bandar Khamir and Sirik, and claimed reciprocal attacks on U.S. vessels. President Donald Trump told reporters the ceasefire was still holding, saying Iran "trifled with us today" and warning Tehran to sign a deal fast. Earlier Thursday, Tehran said it was still reviewing a U.S. end-of-war proposal via Pakistani mediators and had not yet replied.
