Four police personnel, including an inspector of District Reserve Guard (DRG), were killed and another was injured after an improvised explosive device (IED) exploded during a demining operation in Kanker district, Chhattisgarh, on Saturday, police said.
The explosion occurred in a forested area of Aadnar village under the Chhotebethiya police station limits near the Narayanpur district border, according to Inspector general of police of Bastar Range Sundarraj Pattilingam.
The security team, led by DRG inspector Sukhram Vatti, was conducting an operation to trace and defuse IEDs allegedly planted earlier by Naxalites, based on intelligence inputs.
The IED accidentally exploded while the Kanker district police team was trying to defuse it, resulting in the death of three personnel and serious injuries to one, Pattilingam said.

The District Reserve Guard (DRG), also known as the District Reserve Group, is a specialized police unit formed in 2008 in the Indian state of Chhattisgarh to address left-wing extremism, particularly the Maoist insurgency. The unit was established as a response to the growing influence and violence of Maoist groups, which have historically taken advantage of the socio-economic conditions of local tribal populations.
