Israeli strikes kill at least 17 in southern Lebanon despite ceasefire; Aoun denounces violations
Confirmed
What we know
Israeli strikes across southern Lebanon killed at least 17 people, including two children, and wounded 35 on Thursday, Lebanon's health ministry told BBC, as fighting continued despite a U.S.-mediated ceasefire that took effect April 17. Al Jazeera, citing the National News Agency, put the day's toll higher at least 28 killed in and around Jebchit, Toul, Harouf, Qana, Kfar Rumman and other towns; Israel said it was hitting Hezbollah infrastructure and reported one Golani Brigade soldier killed by Hezbollah rockets near Qantara.
President Joseph Aoun denounced "continuing Israeli violations" including demolitions of homes and places of worship, while the Israeli military issued evacuation warnings for about 15 southern villages. Hezbollah said it struck Israeli positions in the south, including a drone attack in the Bint Jbeil district. The health ministry toll since March 2 stood above 2,500 killed.
